aha moment

i had an aha moment today as i cooked chicken enchiladas (which were very yummy).
i felt very self satisfied - we went to see the houston symphony put on a kids show this morning, so i did something fabulously stimulating and educational, i cleaned the house and cooked a delicious homecooked meal. so it dawned on me that i felt like superwoman, which is great, but instead of feeling bad about myself when i get nothing done in a day, i can just be pleased with myself when i do. i know this is an obvious concept, i guess i just internalized it.
i've been working on letting go of the "shoulds" and just letting what is, be. a struggle i have is comparing myself to others, and thats a bunch of hoo-ha. i am who and what i am and i have got to give myself a break sometimes.

i am grateful for my children today, my health and for homeade toffee :-)

fabulous weekend

i wanted to share that we had a wonderful weekend.
friday mason came home from school to his brand new playground and was sooo excited! we spent the afternoon outside playing on it and on the slip & slide.
yesterday we had the honor and pleasure of hosting a suprise bday party for our friend sarah levit. it was her closest friends celebrating what a beautiful special woman she is. the kids ran around and played like wild things.
today we went to see mimi for lunch and after we all had a nap, and the astros lost in a very upsetting way to the phillies, we went to the neighborhood pool. it was a blast, it was stephens first swim and he loved it. he kicked and splashed and enjoyed watching the other kids do the same. it was masons first trip to the pool since his swim lessons began, he started out very timid but really got into it for awhile.
i'm grateful for my life today, my ability to love, my sobriety - and most of all that i know that it is not any of my doing at all, but through the grace of God.

last day of school

mike just left to take mason to his last day of school before the summer. so starting next week i will have both boys home with me full time. to the seasoned moms this seems like no big deal, afterall these are my children, however i have never done this before so its a big deal for me. i am so excited to spend more time with mason. he is so alive and full of energy. i've also been struggling, this year has been so difficult as a mother, i guess challenging is a better word. what worked yesterday does not work today so that kind of blows consistency out of the water. i just want to do right by him - it does not help that i am a capital drama-queen!! so sometimes i can't tell if i'm really blowing something or if i'm being too sensitive. it seems like some of the things i struggle with other mommy friends handle with ease.
i think he and i are growing closer though, which is such a gift. so for now i will continue seeking, which will include a trip to a therapist :-) whoo-hoo

discovery green park

ok, the new park downtown is AWESOME!!! there is a good playground, a water park, restrooms, good open area, a dog park, a water area for model boats, security & food!!! we went this a.m. and it was definitley worth the drive into town. i am very impressed with the mayor & his office for getting this done.

smores

the boys attempted camping at lake livingston this weekend. they went with our friend eddie and his son sawyer, who is 4 1/2. they had a FABULOUS time on friday afternoon and evening. the boys went fishing for the first time and both caught their first fish!

unfortunately mason had a really rough night and they had to come home early early saturday morning. they'll try again another time.

mommy enjoyed her night to herself friday, well with stephen too! my friends jonathan & sarah took me to dinner to celebrate my b-day (okay it took us awhile to get it together, as my bday was in april!!) it was nice to be served dinner and to only have to worry about 1 child.

happy mothers day

happy mothers day to all of the mothers, and of course to myself. we had a nice day together. we went to church and then went to a place called frobergs in alvin. it is a small farmers market and strawberry farm. mason had a wonderful time picking strawberries, he thought it was really cool. mikes mom met us out there so we got to see her briefly, too.

i am grateful today for my 3 boys and the oppurtunities that i have in my life. i am truly blessed to have so much, in so many different ways.

stephen is 6 months old

i cannot believe that he has already been here for 6 months. it feels like just yesterday that he was born, but also that he has always been in my life. we went for his checkup, little man has not even gained a pound in 2 months, yet has grown over 2 inches taller. i was not suprised about his height but very much so about his weight. since we are starting solids twice a day now i think his weight should catch up some. he enjoys hanging out with his brother, rolling around on the floor and most of all kicking his legs. he has four teeth now and, oh, he likes to give kisses, which can sometimes be in the form of biting your face - hard! he is awesome, thats really the best word for him.

mason is doing well, only two more weeks until summer vacation! i've got a lot of fun stuff planned, it will be nice to have him around every day. we went over to a friends house today after school and he jumped on a trampoline for the first time - and loved it of course. i love that he already has playmates that he gets to spend time with outside of school. i can't say enough how i love being home with the kiddos - now if i can just figure out how to get the house cleaned every week that would be good!

mothers day is sunday and we are going to go check out a farmers market where you can go strawberry picking - we hear there is fabulous inexpensive produce, as well. mikes mom and possibly his brother will be joining us, its always good to be around family.
